This is the IDE I use for writing ~all my C++ and Objective-C code. I'll start with the editors and IDEs I use to write my code. So, a little overview of the tools I currently use for developing software. I probably missed a big bunch of apps, but some more apps I use (mostly for planning, writing and stuff like that) will probably show up in my next post. I've changed a couple of times, but stopped (for now) with having iStat Menus active all the time. I jump around using this one, the application 'Menu Meters' and 'atMonitor'.

I like to keep a good look at my system while running/testing my applications. If you are into regular expressions this is an excellent little helper! This is the best one I've found yet for OS X. It got the most features one should need in a basic hex editor. And I don’t feel good about it.Įveryone needs a hex editor! I always keep this one in the dock so I can drop whatever on it. For now I use one of my GTD apps, iCal and Mail for all of that. I guess this is what I’ll use for issue management in a couple of weeks or days.

No one knew how to use it and I actually don’t think anyone tried it before they decided to buy it (the demo days of our test server had just went out when I heard about it and wanted to test it). I don't use this one that much, but I've noticed that it is really nice to have an app like that where I can put a bunch of code snippets. But now I’m thinking about moving on to GIT. Versions is the client I liked most for that kind of things. When I started investigating how I really work with subversion I noticed more and more that the only thing that matter for day to day usage was speed and reliability! But even so, I still felt that I would like to have a graphical front end so I could always keep an eye on what is happening in the company repository and also more easily handle branches, compare different versions etc.

I'm always working on software for OS X, Linux and Windows, so for a long time I felt that I would need a graphical cross platform client. It took me almost a year of testing different subversion clients before I decided to go with this one. Versions by Pico & Sofa (Subversion client) I’ve also tried VirtualBox for a while (about a year ago), but I never got the same clean feeling from it. Parallels for Windows and Fusion for everything else. Fusion and Parallels are good at different things, so now I use both of them.

I got a couple of virtual machines for development and another bunch of virtual machines for system testing (on another MacBook Pro) which I always do before our (non existing) testing team get access to anything. With Fusion and Parallels I do just fine with this one computer for most of my work.

At work I use a MacBook Pro for all my coding. Since I mainly develop software for OS X, Linux and Windows I use these apps almost everyday. A lot has happened since then, but I would like to stick to my plan and continue with that. Once upon a time I started writing on this weblog about my dev tools.
